The US is now trading military blows with Iran with the pretended justification that Iran-supported armed forces in Syria have made attacks on US bases there. The most obvious question is why does the US have bases in Syria in the first place? Did someone invite us ? Isn’t it truthfully to provide an opportunity for another provocation or incident to justify more war? A war on Iran. Regime change? Because that worked out so well for the US in Libya, Iraq, and Afghanistan?
Where is the congressional oversight? The Constitution [Article 1, Section 8] gives Congress the power to “make and declare war.” Neither the President nor the State Department are given this power. And yet someone gave the order for airstrikes into Syria ... again. Have any of you stopped to ask if “this is what democracy looks like?” And yes, “where’s the oversight” is a rhetorical question. We all know that money calls the shots and that there is literally NO ONE in the congress with the character to oppose the mad rush to war. Just remember, it’s money from our pockets and that makes each and every one of us culpable. In case you may have missed it, THAT was the real lesson of 9-11. Oh? You thought the wars were safefly overseas where you could “tsk tsk” them on the nightly news? The war is coming to your neighborhood. Don’t say no one warned you. It is already here.
Now the president has sent US ground troops into Israel. Isn’t the 260 BILLION dollars and probably a lot more that we have sent this bellicose, belligerent colonizer already enough? Now President Sleepy Joe wants to send another $16B to Israel and $61.4B to Ukraine! Has anyone asked if you agree to this? Are we required to bankrupt our treasury, saddle our young adults with enormous education bills, and literally ration health care for our own citizens so that Israel’s expansionist nightmare can be realized? The president calls us “the arsenal of democracy.” Arse perhaps. But democracy? Does anyone seriously believe that? Feel welcome to make your case if can do so.
Meanwhile … the great “moral-majority” of Americans are supine or walk around with their backs bent. “I can’t do anything about it, so I don’t want to be bothered by it.” Or “Who’s on DANCING WITH THE STARS tonight?” Worse yet, many parrot ridiculous claptrap about the Second Coming and “the Rapture.”
When a reporter askd the new and narrowly elected Speaker of the House, “MAGA-MIKE” Johnson (R-LA) where to find a summary of the Speaker’s views on the issues of the day, Johnson answered “Well, go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it. That's my worldview." Great. Bronze-age [if not Neolithic] war-god and blood-sacrifice comprise the views of the new Speaker. That’s comforting. And that’s what passes for “moral” in America. Oh … and this is also a congressman who actively tried to overturn the last election because he wasn’t happy with the outcome. Excuse me? Doesn’t treason disqualify him for office, if not citizenship?
”It is of the utmost danger to society to make it (religion) a party in political disputes.”
Thomas Paine
COMMON SENSE (1776)
"That there are men in all countries who get their living by war, and by keeping up the quarrels of Nations, is as shocking as it is true; but when those who are concerned in the government of a country, make it their study to sow discord and cultivate prejudices between Nations, it becomes the more unpardonable."
Thomas Paine
RIGHTS OF MAN (1791)
Yes, indeed it has been too long. Wonder what Paine would think given that the US has become the Empire seeking wars around the world: China, Ukraine, and now Israel/Palestine. I'm beginning to think we are in a period like that just before WW1.
I wish you were in charge.
