What a great quote! Yes, Paine would be disappointed. Let’s face it, the US has been trying to ape the UK in just about everything, particularly the worship of wealth (right down to the love for Downton Abbey).
Thanks for your comment. Yes, absolutely correct. Ever since France funded and basically won our revolution for us, we have turned around, and with only one minor exception, screwed our ally France (see Jay Treaty ... more on that topic on another occasion), aped and allied ourselves with the British banks and imperial system ... to our shame and discredit.
Today, Americans still worship Anglo anything--hence, "our" mania for the British monarchy. Interestingly, the Brits are Americanizing and thereby privatizing their health system. I'm sure there are Americans who still wish they belonged to Britain.
I'm glad you brought that up, Ms. Chiu. I intended to highlight our fellow citizens' shameless and un-American adulation of the UK "royals" and their chinless aristocratic "peers." It's disgusting in every way. Perhaps you've noticed that I take the time to mock and ridicule it at every opportunity. :) Again thanks for commenting.
Literally apoplexy.
Whenever you see a royal worshipping post on Facebook, you should leave a few vomit emoji: )
